Trader Joe’s, Costco, Target and Whole Foods Grocery Haul

I wish I would’ve been as organized about this shopping trip(s) as planned. Reality was that our first three days in CT we didn’t have a car so we relied on Uber, then we didn’t really know when we were getting a car, which turned out to be Saturday (we arrived on Wednesday). My husband had to continue working from home as per usual and I don’t begin internship until the last week of August. All of this means that I took 3-5 Uber trips to Target, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, picking up a few things during every trip to slowly build up our pantry and fridge. On Sunday, we went to Costco.

I decided that it was much easier as well as “attractive” to make a haul video of our purchases. Sadly, I lost most receipts so I can’t give the total amount of the haul but we estimate anywhere from $300-$400. Keep in mind that we made purchases that we won’t make again for a while, such as spices, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc. I also stocked up on a pasta sale and bough a few extra things since we need to drive 15 minutes to get to Trader Joe’s, Target or Costco. We live in Downtown Hartford and we only have 2-3 small markets all of which lack variety and are ridiculously overpriced.

For more details make sure to check out the haul video (excuse the quality, I made it on my iPhone). I did forget (or purposefully omit) some items for this haul such as potatoes, squash, pumpkin, etc. but I’m making do with a much smaller fridge so I’m taking it day by day. I’m going to try and not purchase anything for two weeks just so we can see how much we can stretch these groceries and what our new plan should be. Back in Puerto Rico more than half of what we bough/ate was from Costco, sadly now most things are too big for our fridge but we’re still hanging on to our membership.

I also need to get back to menu-planning ASAP.

How has your week been? Have you tried any of the items listed above?
